Heydar Aliyev Oil Refinery
The largest and most innovative challenger in the fuel production industry.
The modernization program is one of Azerbaijan's largest industrial development projects. It upgrades refining technologies, increases production capacity, improves operational safety, and enables the production of cleaner Euro-5 fuels while supporting the country's long-term energy security.
The project introduces modern process units, digital automation, environmentally friendly technologies, and advanced engineering solutions to ensure reliable and efficient refinery operations.
Engineering activities include the installation of new process units, digital monitoring systems, storage facilities, utilities, and modern safety infrastructure designed to improve long-term operational reliability. The modernization program follows international engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) standards while ensuring compliance with environmental and industrial safety regulations.
The need to increase the efficiency of the butylene-butadiene (C4) hydrogenation unit with a throughput capacity of 15-25 tons/hour in accordance with the 2020 forecast objectives and production brought about a process for simultaneous operation of the second reactor in the facility. Once the unit becomes operational, there is a plan to obtain about 60 tons of additional ethylene from a daily hydrogenation of 500 tons of technical butane in the refinery. At the same time, a project to hydrogenate the technical butane in the Oil Refinery’s old C3 Unit was developed and is now nearing its commissioning phase.
Cleaner technologies, improved wastewater treatment, reduced emissions, and enhanced energy efficiency are key elements of the modernization strategy. These improvements support sustainable industrial growth and compliance with modern environmental standards.
